QUESTIONS

  • Can the VA help me with my divorce
  • How long do I have to be living with my spouse to be considered married?
  • If an intruder breaks into my apartment at night and I hurt him before I know if he is armed, can I be charged with assault or anything else?
  • I just got married and changed my last name and want to change my daughters last name to match my husband's and my last name. Her current last name was my maiden name. Her biological father has never been in her life. How do I go about changing her last name?
  • I received a certified letter from my landlord that I have to vacate the property in 30 days. However this is not enough time for me and my kids to find a new place to live. Do I legally have to vacate in that amount of time or is she just making sure to start the process in notifying me? I'm afraid I might end up homeless, losing all my belongings, and be escorted out by the police.
  • Is there a statue of limitations on a property lien due to non payment of FORM 940 from a failed business? The quarterly report was filed, but no payment was paid.
  • I am a full time college student in Arkansas. My girlfriend and 4 year old son moved back to Phoenix to live with her dad and his family. I receive VA benefits to attend college and with rent and other items. I have also started working part time, at night, as the money I receive doesn't cover everything. I live very modestly as I don't have much time to do things. I received court papers suing for child support. She and I had already discussed our financial situation. She works full time with the Laveen school system. I try to assist with money but it's very hard. What can I do?
  • Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have 2 siblings and a step sibling who are sole beneficiaries of a trust. My step dad passed almost a year ago. We have heard nothing about the status of the trust. All of his personal property has been sold and presumably those funds have been added to the trust. None of us are contesting the distribution of funds. How long should it generally take for us to hear when we may receive our inheritance and how can I follow up on the courts progress? Kindly, Sharon D.
  • Our landlord refuses to fix our swamp cooler and the resulting problems. The swamp cooler leaks water, which has damaged the roof so that it leaks in our bedroom & closet for the last 3 years. This year it blew a fuse, so the landlord is using OUR extention cord for power. Now, whenever the cooler is turned on, the faucets and metal parts of our toilet/sink are electrified. We would like to file the 10 day repair notice but can't afford to move out. Can we file for damages while still living in the apt? Are we allowed to stay until the case is over?
  • My son's ex-girlfriend is pregnant. She claimed he was the father. She has a history of mental health issues. She will not tell him where she lives, who her doctor is or what hospital she's going to. They were getting along OK until he said he wants a paternity test. He wants to be responsible if the baby is his. Can a court get her address to serve a subpoena and make her do the paternity test?
