QUESTIONS

  • I just got married to a mexican national two months ago. We both want to get his papers filed but it is so expensive. Where can we go to get help with this?
  • Our trailer we are rent to own. The electric bill is tied in with 3 other places. Our electric bill goes up every month. The electric bill is connected to the main office. Our A/C isn't working. All summer. What can we do about it? They're refusing to fix it saying it's up to us.
  • Our lease states that a clothes washer and dryer are "furnished appliances." Knowing that they would be here is part of what made us decide to move here. We discussed it with our landlord before we moved in, and he said he would have take care of it. After two months, we still don't have a washer and dryer. When I brought it up to the landlord last week, he said he didn't remember the conversation, but if I wanted, he would buy a washer and dryer, and he would let us pay it off with our rent. I looked at the lease again, just to make sure I remembered correctly, and don't understand this.
  • An insurance company contacted us and informed us that our father purchased us whole life policies the year of our birth. He is not alive so we have no information on these policies. The insurance company claims that both my brother's and my policies have had two loans issued against them on the same date. They cannot provide us any documents to prove the loans that have over the last 30+ years have increased for interest and penalties to over $8500 on each policy. It is my understanding that an active contract requires documents associated must be kept. Would that be accurate?
  • I am having a situation similar to what you describe regarding my old landlord withholding my deposit, and not contacting me at all after our walk through, when i had verbally requested an itemized list of deductions. it has been 20 business days and he has not contacted me. I'm looking for the text of Schaefer v. Murphey to read. Your article mentions the case, but I can not find any more information about it. Any help would be much appreciated
  • In our lease it states that we must perfrom regular maintenance to the outside. We live in an HOA, and have complied with all request, and kept the property in good condition. We are about to move out, and suddenly the landlord is saying that we must perform landscaping on trees, and bushes that were neglected for years. We have kept everything well trimmed, but there are areas that there is at least 10 years of old growth (cactus, and palm trees). How much am I on the hook for with respect to pre-existing landscape conditions.

  • I and my daughter have not seen my husband in 5 years. She is 6. He was abusive but never arrested because he was good at abusing without leaving marks and lying. He has taken steps to hide his whereabouts and stated that if he had to pay child support he would take custody. I have been with my current fiancé for about 3 years and he would like to adopt her. Can he do that before the divorce?
