QUESTIONS

  • My roommate flaked out on me and I need to pay a termination fee for the apartment. We are both signed on the lease but I need to know if my roommate is also responsible to split the termination fee and if so, what if my roommate refuses? Will she be responsible for paying her part? The termination fee is four months of rent and I am able to pay two (half) of the overall fee. My landlords said if she won't pay her part, it will be sent to collections and they will also require me to pay the remaining balance if she doesn't.
  • My son-in-law sued for divorce from my daughter. Two kids are involved--16 and 11. His attorney (say Mr. X) has subpoenaed me to testify on his client's behalf. I do not want to testify. Q1. Does the fact that his attorney met with my wife and me c. 1 yr ago to discuss my daughter's issues as the relate to the kids disqualify him as having knowledge we gave in confidence to him? Q2. Does the same apply to my wife, my daughter's step mother? Q3. I have worked with both to provide a negotiated settlement, divulging information that may compromise her if I testify. Will this disqualify me?

  • My daughter has several psychological diagnosis' & gave birth to a premature son. She is not married & unsure who child's father is. The baby is in the NICU & mother does not fully understand the care guidelines given by NICU staff & doctors. Mother does not allow family access to the baby in the NICU as she does not trust her boyfriend's family. How can obtain a Medical Power of Attorney over the child as my daughter does not understand his needs & enforce visitation to the baby in the NICU? I fear for the baby's well being in his mother's lack of care & visitation at the NICU.
  • My house has rats and landlord hired an exterminator who laid bait under the wood floors and the rats died in the house. The house now smells putrid and my landlord refuses to hire someone to remove the rats. I don't know what to do, I can't even stay in my own house.
