QUESTIONS

  • I was an independent contractor for a local company. First, can they require a person to give them 60 days notice prior to quitting? I did quit (didn't give 60 days). The owner is claiming that I still have paperwork and keys, which I have turned in everything, and she's withholding my last paycheck. Can she do that? Can I, as an independent contractor, file a wage claim?
  • I have rented a room in my home to a lady and her 7 cat and 2 rabbits for 4 years. It started as a "to help someone out" situation to she is a hoarder and does not want to move. I understand I can take legal action to force her to move but what about the animals. I can not take care of them and I am afraid she will just leave them here. The problem is that my lender does not want to make any promises in writing and does not give me straight answers on what happens if I keep my end of the deal. I'm affraid my lender will simply foreclose when it may fit its interest, disregard of my needs. Also, it is wise to enter into any deals post bankruptcy if my debts are discharded already and thus, uncollectable? Thanks!
