QUESTIONS

  • I moved into my apartment two months ago and realized that the front windo was broken upon moving in. They had someone look at it and get an estimate and turns out the window needs to be replaced. How long do they have to fix it? It’s been over a month already.
  • My apartment is being infested with cockroaches due to my filthy neighbors. I have talked with the leasing office multiple times over the occasion and their have not addressed with with the neighbors. The only solution they have offered is the tiny cockroach tabs to put in cabinets. I have not had food or trash in my apartment for over two months because of not being able to live there with the cockroaches. Is there a way to break my lease because the landlord has not provided a "safe and habitual environment?"
  • I only have one car loan as far as debt. I only get child support as far as income ($300). I go to school full time. A year ago the house I was renting burnt down. It was an accident on my son's(17) part. I have received a bill for about $170,000 to repay the damages. Would Bankruptcy be an option? Can I file with only having this one bill? Would I lose my car since that is all I own now? Do I wait till the bill is older since I just got it?
  • I rent a condo from the owner. The landlord has sent 4 serviceman to fix my 23 year old ac unit that has been non stop leaking on 7/4( now 7/28). Each saying the ac simply needs to be replaced. I have numerous bowls out bc it leaks in different areas. The hallway is a hazard and unsightly . He has come to terms it needs replaced. What time frame am I entitled to have the replacement done timely ? Also is it my responsibility to meet the repairman if the landlord cannot accommodate my work schedule?
  • My father has cancer and I had submited an FMLA with my employer. They had approved the FMLA. I was required to submit my hours of FMLA used to HR. I have no problem submitting the hours of FMLA used but my problem is when other employees who are on FMLA is not submitting the hours weekly and was not being tracked like I am, shouldnt that fall under Discrimination under FMLA? I think that most of the HR personnel are only there to help the employer but not the employees.Dept labor should enforce that the HR employees should come from a 3rd party that will ensure everyone is treated fairly.
  • We signed a 4 month lease at an RV Storage facility to rent a 60' space for our 20' trailer, because we were told only 60' spaces were available. After parking the trailer in the assigned space we discovered it is not 60' but 40', which rents for $75 per month. The facility continues to insist it's a 60' space, refuses to measure it & refuses to change our rental rate to $75. They only offer to move us to "another" 60' space as a solution. Is it legal for them to overcharge us like this? What recourse do we have? We suspect they're doing this to others. Isn't this fraud? What rights do we have
  • Can a landlord refuse to accept a 60 day written notice? Where are the laws against this?
  • We've signed a lease for 1 yr from July 15th, 2017 to July 15, 2018. Our owner is attempting to modify our lease agreement which states that our management office will collect any mail packages while we are absent. Now, they are threatening to charge us $7 a month to rent an on premise locker or we'll have to drive to our local post office to retrieve our mail packages. Is it legal to change the lease terms 4 months after we signed our Lease?
  • My apartment , for the 5th time this year, as left a piece of paper outside my door with an open-ended notice of water being shut off for repairs. After about 5 hours, I've called for an update and they just say they don't know when it will be done. Is it within their rights to leave open-ended notices, not even in person, of utilities being cut? Do i have any rights in this matter as a paying tenant with a 5 month old who works from home?
  • The mother has informed the judge at our last settlement that she has moved back into her dad's house and plans to quit her job to go to school fulltime. My concern is with me currently paying child support, will that amount increase due to her deciding not to work, especially when all her expenses will be accounted for by her dad?
