  • I own a mobile home but rent the land it sits on (in a park). Monthly, the landlord sends a bill that includes a base rent, charges for electricity, water use, and sewer. It also includes a "rent tax." I'm unsure what this rent tax is and whethere he should be paying it or I should. There is also a "service charge" of $10 on the monthly electric portion, which I think is a reading fee (a man who lives here reads the meters). Are these last two charges legitimate?
  • There was a major issue with the plumbing and it backed up into my house. This is caused by a sagging pipe and the main line needs to be repaired. The owner is now trying to charge me for the work that was already done even though nothing was found blocking besides the pipe issues. Is this legal??

  • We signed a 4 month lease at an RV Storage facility to rent a 60' space for our 20' trailer, because we were told only 60' spaces were available. After parking the trailer in the assigned space we discovered it is not 60' but 40', which rents for $75 per month. The facility continues to insist it's a 60' space, refuses to measure it & refuses to change our rental rate to $75. They only offer to move us to "another" 60' space as a solution. Is it legal for them to overcharge us like this? What recourse do we have? We suspect they're doing this to others. Isn't this fraud? What rights do we have

  • My husband was recently arrested for sexually abusing my daughters. He is currently in jail awaiting trial for 3 class 6 felony charges. Of course I want a divorce, but I want to make sure that I proceed in a way that will most benefit my five children. I want to protect them from their father (get sole custody), and I want to do what will help us most financially. So is it best to file divorce papers immediately or to wait until he is convicted? If he is convicted does all of his property revert to me if we are still married? I am thinking long term, I know that I won't be receiving any child support so if the property doesn't revert to me on his conviction, is it likely that courts will give me all the community property in lieu of child support? Thank you.
  • My sons father has contacted me wanting to see my 13 yr old son after no contact in 10 years. He has a bad criminal history. The last custody order 6 yrs ago said he could have supervised visits with his paternal gramma every other weekend overnight & phone contact when it coincides with my sons schedule. He didn't ever show up for ANY visits or even call. I have agreed to phone contact between them for a few weeks then supervised visits. How long should that last? He wanted to call everyday but I don't want him calling so much. Is asking him to call every other day okay? What are my options?

I found a house for rent, the rental agency requires my most current landlord to verify that I did live at that address and paid rent. When they called him to verify, he refused to answer any questions. Can he do that? Now I may have a lot harder time finding a place to rent.
