I am 27. I owe about 18,00 in child support right now. Ive been able to make payments here and there but only $50 at a time. I have an arrears hearing coming up on sept. 3rd. This will be the first hearing. Just in the last few days I was able to gain employment for a department store. Im going to have them garnish my wages or I will be making the appropriate payment. I have honestly just had trouble finding work. Do I need to be concerned about going to jail at this hearing? and can I request a modification of support at this hearing?

I went to a lawyer for my divorce. He quoted "about $1500.00, maybe a little more." Due to mistakes his people made the divorce took about 8 months. He is now billing me for over $10,000.00. There was no fighting between my former spouse and me, at all. He will not tell my why the cost is more than six times the original amount, and he is now adding interest of 18%.

The house is under contract "as is", delay in closing (1 month, then 3 more months due to divorce not yet finalized). Owner-to-be is paying rent month to month. I just appealed Social Security's decision to deny my survivor's benefits, which were denied, again! I'm a disabled widow, and have had my disability since I was a teenager, since my records show I have a personality disorder,Agoraphobia, etc. But,they keep denying my husband's benefits on the grounds that I didn't become disabled within 7 years after he died! The Social Security laws have recently been changed to let divorced, disabled widows have the same laws, which were worded differently before my case was heard! Is there free help to help me fight them?
