  • I have lived in the same apartment for the last 3 years. It is a 30+ year old complex and has had few if any true upgrades. It was recently sold to another company and AMC took over the management of the property. In addition to a Common Area Maintenance fee attached to the utility bill, they refuse to come down in price of the monthly rent. Is this a case of price gouging and also is the CAM fee legal?
  • My lease is coming up for renewal at a complex that recently changed ownership. My neighbor is currently reviewing the new lease and trying to decide to stay or leave. The lease has an addendum saying that Tenants will be chaged CAM fees for ALL common area maintenance and repairs and all expenses to operate the property. They will determine the amount of each tenant's share by dividing the entire cost of CAMs divided by the number of units leased (not the number of units within the complex).   • My case has been "vacated" but still shows up on background checks. Will hiring a lawyer to 'set aside' the felony still be needed...or not? I never received any information that I was even charged with the felony (disorderly conduct). AND - is it possible to have this removed from background checks?   • Since July we have had a scorpion problem. We have continuously notified the office by letter each time we find a scorpion, we have even brought some into the office. The manager agreed to let us break our lease without payment on our behalf with a 30 day notice. 5 days after the agreement was made that manager had been let go and a new manager took over who had no idea about the agreement. Now they are saying the old manager did not take the proper steps to let us break our lease and refuses now to let us leave. We have 3 children under 8,I am pregnant and my husband was stung. What now?
