I have a leak in a water pipe and my carpet is soaked and there is a musty smell that I'm afraid could be mold. The manager says I have to wait until the owner has the money to get it fixed. Can I legally hire a plumber and give the bill to my landlord or deduct the cost from my rent?

My wife and I are currently going through a divorce. She opened a separate checking account before I filed but transferred her check to her new account afterwards and didn’t inform me about it until payday because we both get paid the same week. I need to know if she’s in violation of a court order because it was my understanding that you cannot hide funds, get loans etc. until the divorce is final??

I live in an apartment complex near NAU. My roommate and I have lived here for about three months now and we have a dog (only 15 lbs), which is allowed by the apartment complex (up to 40 lbs). We found a stray kitten a few weeks back (only 6 lbs), and we would like to keep her. The lease that we signed says NOTHING about being limited to only one animal in the apartment, however they are telling us that that is what their policy is, even though there was no written agreement to that. Should I be able to get another pet in the apartment?

A few months ago I sold a car that I personally owned, a 2003 Mercedes for $6,000. It was our family car, sold to a private buyer. I own a internet based business where I locate classic cars. This individual that purchased our Mercedes said that his wife did not like the car and he wanted his money back. When I refused he threatened to sue me. Today I received a "Truth Affidavit" in the mail from his personal attorney making a number of false claims and naming my business as a "shell company" in the matter. My business was never relevant in the matter. How should I proceed with this?

We recently (7/29/14) lost our home to foreclosure, the question I have is that when we initially bought our home in Oct. 2004 the purchase price was $125,500.00 with a 3 yr arm. we then refinanced to get a fixed interest rate and got some cash to pay off debt, the refi amt was $171,000.00 that was about 5 or 6 yrs ago and now fast forward to 2014 I get a statement from the bank saying we owe $224,600+ thousand dollars on the home, how does my debt increase to that amount and is this legal?

I started my lease in April of 2008. It expired in April of 2009. It's now December of 2010, I have given a 30 day notice to vacate. Am I responsible for nonpayment of rent within the last 3 months even if I haven't had a valid lease in over a year?
