QUESTIONS

  • Instead of sending rent directly to him, my landlord has had me mail my rent as deposits straight to his bank. I have been using automatic bill pay through my bank, so it's been a hands off process for all involved. He just hit me with a five day notice to pay or vacate, claiming he is owed $11,000+ since April of last year! Is there anything in the law that protects a tenant from a landlord claiming non-receipt of payment months later if my payments in fact were lost and cashed by a 3rd party as it seems to be in this case? Is there a time limit for a landlord to notify tenant of non paym
  • Is a washing machine considered an appliance that a land lord must replace if no longer working? Are they able to include no longer replacing appliances in the lease contract? Or indicate the tenant must come up with $100 and they replace it?

  • My daughter was trying on clothes at Sears with a friend of hers. They were in separate booths and after they left they were stopped by a security guard who found several items of clothing in her friends bag. My daughter did not have a purse or a bag on her. The police were called, but the video clearly showed that they were using separate dressing rooms. The police declined to file charges against my daughter although charges have been filed against the friend. We just received a letter from a law firm representing Sears demanding payment in the amount of $168.00. Can they legally bill us?
  • My daughter passed away recently and I requested her last paycheck. I asked the employer to add my name with proper identification to her check. He only made it out to her, therefore I am unable to cash the check or add it to my account. How can I cash her check?
