Visitation

questions & answers

Question:

If the father pays child support, does he have visitation rights?

Answer: The following is provided for general information only. To find out how the law applies to a specific situation, contact an attorney directly. When parents separate or divorce, care for the children must continue. If the parents cannot agree on a plan for raising the children, the court will order a plan or decide matters concerning their health and welfare. In some situations, unmarried parents, relatives or other persons also may ask the court for custody or parenting time. In each case, the court's decision is based on the child's best interests. If this has not already been determined, the father may petition the court in order to request parenting time. This document "Things you should know about child custody and parenting time" discusses matters related to child custody and can provide additional insight on this matter.
