Question: I am the wife of a retired service member that I receive 50% of the community property pension. Do I have to pay taxes on the payment?
Answer: The federal government does tax military retirement benefits. There are different rules for disability benefits. Whether you will owe state tax is another question. I am giving you a link to an article that details the position of each state. Arizona does allow a portion of the retirement to be excluded.
