Question: A 16 year old is arrested for possession of stolen vehicle and evading police. Released to parents, 1st offense. Owner of vehicle will not press charges. What is expected? Thank You
Answer: You will need to speak with the courts to find out what to expect. Even though the owner does not press charges, the state may. As the 16 year old is a minor, he may be charged as a juvenile. However, a stolen vehicle and evading police may also be felony charges. If the 16 year old was not arrested, the parent(s) may want to seek an attorney to find out what the court may or may not do and if they may be charged as well. Please contact an attorney for more information.
