Fired
questions & answers
Question: After being fired from my job I began collecting unemployment. Now they are fighting it . They have not appeared for the phone hearing and now are re-appealing. How do I get help?
Answer: Without knowing the full situation, I will just give you a brief over view. Unemployment benefits are available to anyone when you lose your job at no fault of your own. Most states typically require you to be actively looking for new employment. The benefits are typically paid weekly, at a percentage of your past income, and for a set period of time. Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is the state agency in charge of unemployment in AZ. Once a claim is open, it can be reviewed at anytime to ensure you still meet the requirements of unemployment benefits. First step should be contacting DES and reviewing you file with them. Second, I would suggest you contact an attorney versed in unemployment law and discuss the situation. Here are a couple websites with some information that can hopefully answer any other questions you have. https://www.azdes.gov/landing.aspx?id=5242
