Question: I am a caretaker of my younger sister we moved in a friends house 4 years ago I paid half the rent and half of all the bills now he says I have 4 weeks to move out I don't have the funds to move In 4 weeks can he verbally evect me

Answer: Even if your name does not appear on the lease, your regular payment of half of the rent and utilities very likely has created a month-to-month tenancy (a sublease, in effect). However, all that this means is that your friend is required to provide you with 30 days notice. Your specific rights in this situation may depend in part on whether or not your friend’s landlord knows that you are living in the dwelling and have been doing so for four years. Your friend may or may not be in violation of his own rental agreement by permitting you to live there. The only way you can claim to be able to stay is if you and your friend are co-tenants.
