Question: Can I just leave my savings in a bank account for later use?
Answer:
Sure – but realize that after a time without contact with you, the bank must turn the property over to Arizona Unclaimed Property. Please contact your bank for their policies on this issue.
Also look at the FDIC insurance provided by the bank and see whether you want to have all of your money at that bank for convenience or whether you want the FDIC insurance by having accounts at several banks.
Some banks now offer Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Services (CDARS) where money can be invested in CDs held at a number of different banks, so that FDIC insurance is available for each CD, while still receiving just one regular statement from your primary bank.
