Foreclosure

questions & answers

Question: how long do we have after told about foreclosure to move out?

Answer:

Technically, a homeowner does not have to move out until after a Judge orders the issuance of a writ in a forcible entry and detainer action. That said, a homeowner may not want to simply wait and do nothing. If a house has been foreclosed on, the homeowner will likely be contacted by a real estate agent or other agent for the new owner--likely the bank--and the homeowner may want to discuss his or her needs with that agent. If the homeowner needs a few weeks to move, that person may want to discuss this with the new owner, so they may be able to come to agreement as to when the homeowner will move out.
