QUESTIONS

  • I informed my landlord that there were several things that needed to be fixed (the dishwasher and the toilet) She never responded to my requests. I waited several days. I then informed her that I would have these items fixed and that I would provide her with receipts of the work done and deduct it from my rent. Again, she did not respond. Now she is seeking late fees for the amount that I deducted from my rent. In addition, the roof has leaked for the last year and after numerous requests has not been fixed to my knowledge. Can she do this and can I break m y Lease?
  • I am representing myself, Pro Per in a short 1 hour hearing on temp orders. I am the petitioner and the respondent is listing me as on e of her witnesses to call. Can I refuse to take the stand as her objective will be to get me to testify against myself and I cannot cross examine myself after? Also can I and how could I ask the Judge to not grant every witness she has submitted, time on the stand, as that will run out the clock with so many of them? I have not called any witnesses because we only were given an hour and thought this was only to go over the details of already submitted evidence

The only term we are not agreeing on is that I want to stipulate that my daughter and I can relocate to Colorado in a year. His attorney keeps saying the courts will not accept that even if we come to an agreement on everything else before our court date. I spoke to an attorney who told me the opposite. How do I word this to his attorney or is his attorney right?

  • In July I went to SALA to see about filing bankruptcy. I am behind on everything due to unemployment and medical bills for my son. The lawyer I saw said not to at this point because I make too little to garnish,and sent me home with some pamphlets. Now my HOA has sued and won and is putting a lein on my house.I will never be able to make the payment they are asking for. My house is free and clear. Can the HOA still take my home and leave my kids and I homeless? Or are they bound by the homestead law? Thank you.

Went out, things strewn everywhere, my stereo system stolen, the mail key used to steal packages expected that day. Landlord still refuses to change the locks. First excuse was that it would infringe on the rights of the roommate suspected of handing out her keys (or even helping with the robbery in person). Is what my landlord doing landlord negligence? These people have a KEY to my HOME! Isn’t there some responsibility for tenant safety???
