QUESTIONS

  • I am a single mother and caretaker for my 92 year old grandfather. He is stable but declining rapidly. I am about to put him on home Hospice care. My lease is about to expire (at the end of June) and my landlord gave me very short notice that they are not renewing my lease and want me out. I'm afraid that a move right now would destabilize my grandfather and will lead to his death soon after a move. It is very difficult for me because we are low income and finding a place and moving in four weeks will be very difficult. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

  • I was evicted from my apartment in 2010 after being admitted to the hospital and never returned for my belongings. Two years later I went back to rectify the money owed to them and clear my credit history. They had no records on me and told me they were under new management. Now it is 2015 and a collection agency is attempting to collect money in arrears due to a broken lease as well as 10% interest for the 5 years since the eviction. I want to dispute these excessive charges but do I need an attorney to help me? Please advise. Thanks.

  • I filled an application and put $200 down for a deposit. I told the complex I wanted to move in. I was involved in a car accident and I received a call the next day saying I had to be in the office by 6pm to sign a lease. I asked if I could come in the following day. The complex told me no. I asked for my deposit back. Initially the complex stated they would give me a refund. But a few days later the apartment manager noted I was not going to receive a refund. I have not heard from the complex and I would like my $200 back. Is there anything I can do?
  • My stepson just passed away at the age of 33. He had sole legal and physical custody of his children, ages 4 and 5. He was never married and the mother of the children has only supervised visits at his discretion. She is currently involved with DCS and has been for almost 3 years. We have filed for permanent custody. Because my husband had sole custody would he have had automatic custody of the kids? They have lived with us for 3 years with their father. We also had guardianship of the kids for a year before father retained sole custody
