My son's biological father pays child support regularly (after being threatened with jail time by a judge) but is completely uninvolved in my son's life - hasn't seen him, talked to him, or asked about him for years. My current husband is an amazing father to my son. I have been researching legal guardianship to give some rights to my current husband since he is the one actively raising my son. What are the benefits/drawbacks to my current husband becoming a legal guardian? Would my ex be released from obligation to pay child support like he would be if my current husband adopted my son?

I was married to an active military person from 6/1974- 8/1987. The divorce was done solely by my ex husband.I simple received the divorce decree in the mail. I was not aware that been married to an active military for 10 years entitles me to a portion of his retirement. My brother just advised me a week ago that I should have and was entitled to this; so this is the first time that I'm trying to get information on the matter. I was never told or known about this.

After foreclosure involving a single family residence the new owner filed an unlawful detainer action against the tenants who had no rental agreement after serving them with a 90 day notice to quit. The tenants refuse to move and have not paid rent. They only had a month to month oral agreement with the former owner. One of the tenants claims that he is on parole and cannot be evicted. Is this a valid defense to the UD action?
