Driving

questions & answers

Question: ca the police ask to see the keys to the vehicle you are driving and then refuse to give them back, because you borrowed the car and it's not in your name , because it's a friends

Answer: Police may stop anyone and investigate any matter so long as their stop is supported by a reasonable suspicion to stop the person based on a totality of circumstances determination. If police had probable cause to believe that you were in possession of the vehicle unlawfully (without actual consent), then the police, at minimum, may seize the vehicle. If you would like to discuss your situation with an attorney, you may locate an attorney through the AZ State Bar at www.azbar.org.
