QUESTIONS

  • The apartment that I moved out of says I owe them money for a variety of things when I moved out. They charged me to paint it, but when I moved in the walls were already dirty with spills and stains. I have pictures to prove it when I moved in. Also, when I asked for a copy of what I am being charged for, the information was not accurate. It says they did all the cleaning and painting in the middle of the month, but I didn't move out until the last day of that month. Do I have an argument worth pursuing?
  • I signed a contract with my current landlord to move into another unit on the property, effective Feb 15. The contract was signed by all parties, and I paid a $150 transfer fee on Jan. 31. Today, Feb 2, I received an email from the landlord stating that the current tenant has "changed" her mind, and thus the contract will not be honored. Is this legal?

  • I moved in the 4th of July weekend, signing a 1 year lease, which will convert to month-to-month after the 1st year. On 12/31/15 I received a notice that they were raising my "tax" amount effective 2/1/16 - is this legal? And once the lease becomes month-to-month and you agree to a rental amount increase (which is sure to come), do you legally have to sign the agreement which is the same format as a "1 year" lease?
