  • My husband's divorce was finalized in AZ. The 1998 divorce Parenting Plan had a clause saying "Both parties agree to designate the child as their sold beneficiary on all life insurance policies and as the sole beneficiary of their respective estates. In the event either party remarries, the remarried party agrees to maintain the child as a beneficiary of at least 50% of their life insurance policy and estate." He just passed and his now 24 old, married, not living at home, not disabled, daughter is informally contesting his will. I know he believed this was not longer valid, I need to confirm.
  • I am a condo owner, I live in the unit and rent out my 2nd bedroom to someone. We have a lease, and we have also been working under the agreement that we switch off paying for things that we share, for example paper towels, light bulbs in the common areas, etc. However, she is now refusing to purchase a new furnace filter, saying that is a 'maintenance item' and is my responsibility. I think this falls under the 'damages due to negligence' clause in the lease. I plan to take the cost of the filters out of her last month's rent and her lease-end date be moved up accordingly. Is that legal?

  • A nurse friend of mine thought she was signing up for a BSN program with excelsior college through The College Network(TNC)but was never contacted even though they have taken out monies every month, approx. $600, when she called TNC said she could not withdraw and must pay the full amount.   • Hi, I have a few questions. I have a landlord that recently told me the rent was going up by 200 dollars with about a 2 week notice via text message. Is that legal? Also, I had told her I was having an issue with foul odors coming from the hall restroom and requested her send a plumber or her handyman. This problem has been brought up to her previously as well and no action was taken on her part. She actually got upset with me at the request. She then by text again said she should have raised my rent to 1250 if she knew I was going to "complain". We also are having ac problems . Please help
  • I was evicted from my apartment in 2010 after being admitted to the hospital and never returned for my belongings. Two years later I went back to rectify the money owed to them and clear my credit history. They had no records on me and told me they were under new management. Now it is 2015 and a collection agency is attempting to collect money in arrears due to a broken lease as well as 10% interest for the 5 years since the eviction. I want to dispute these excessive charges but do I need an attorney to help me? Please advise. Thanks.
