Child Support
questions & answers
Question: Can a person from Mexico living in Mexico apply for child support in Arizona?
Answer: A person does not have to be a U.S. citizen or resident to apply for child support services in the United States. Some countries have special arrangements with the United States or individual states, where the country will help the United States with the child support case. Mexico is not one of the countries that Arizona has special arrangements, also known as reciprocity. Per the United States Office of Child Support Enforcement, “If your country does not have federal or state-level reciprocity, you can apply directly for services with the child support agency in the U.S. state where the person who owes support lives.” (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/css/resource/frequently-asked-questions-about-international-cases#Question 1)
