Child Custody
questions & answers
Question: I'm a LCPL in the Marine Corps and I live in the barracks on base. I was told by my higher ups that if I have 50% custody I can qualify for a house. So that i can bring my daughter out, not for the whole 6 months but a couple weeks out of the year, she's 5 now. My ex has said she was ok with it but we are not doing anything throgh the courts and my command wants documentation. What would i need to prove 50% custody?
Answer: This is a difficult question to answer, because your question does not specify what exactly the Corps would require in terms of documentation. But it is common for parents to negotiate a written agreement (usually with notarized signatures) concerning a parenting plan. However, if your chain of command wants a document bearing a judge's signature, then the two of you may have to jointly petition the court for modification of the original decree - unless the original court order already says what you need.
