Domestic Violence
questions & answers
Question: My live-in boyfriend was served a Protective Order yesterday. The police explained it to him and gave him time to collect some personal belongings. How long does he have to come back and collect the rest of his stuff from the house?
Answer: After a Protective Order has been served, the order will remain in effect for one year. The resident who has been served may be allowed by the Judicial Officer to return to the residence one time to collect their personal belongings. If they are not able to collect all personal belongings, or if they feel they have been wrongfully denied to collect their property, they can file a civil action to recover their property. For more general information, look over the Arizona Revised Statute 13-3602.
