Birth Certificate
questions & answers
Question: the father of my unborn child will be in prison when he is born. How do i go about listing him on the birth certificate without him present
Answer:
In the case of an unwed mother, in order for the father’s name to be placed on the birth certificate, he is normally required to be present to sign an affidavit confirming the fact. If the father is not available to be at the birth you may want to see if you can have pre-signed letter from the father acknowledging that he is indeed the biological parent of the child. It is possible that the letter would be required to be notarized for authenticity.
