Where to Find an Attorney for Specific Legal Advice
Arizona has three legal aid organizations which cover different regions of the state.
- Community Legal Services (800) 852-9075 covers Maricopa, Mohave, Yavapai, Yuma and LaPaz Counties.
- Southern Arizona Legal Aid (800) 640-9465 covers southern Arizona.
- DNA People’s Legal Services (800) 789-7287 covers northern Arizona.
All legal service programs in Arizona differ, and their criteria for accepting cases vary. The legal aid organizations above all have the same criteria of income restrictions and legal status requirements, but do have varying priorities.
To find out about more Arizona resources that may be able to assist you, you can contact LegalLEARN, Legal Information & Resources at (866) 637-5341.
Individuals may apply for free and reduced fee legal services by using the "Access To Justice Online Intake System" through AZLawHelp.
If the legal services program in your area cannot assist you, you may be able to find a lawyer through lawyer referral services in Maricopa County (602) 257-4434 or Pima County (520) 623-4625.
The State Bar also maintains a listing of all Arizona attorneys on their website, and certifies “specialists” in eight legal areas. (Not all attorneys seek such certification, however.) Lists of specialists can also be found at the State Bar of Arizona’s website.

I am taking FMLA leave to have a baby in March. My HR dept is telling me that they will pro rate the rest of my pay until my contract year is up (I am a teacher). Your website says that once I return from FMLA, I receive the same salary. I cannot find that information on the US Dept of Wages and Labor website - please advise. Thank you.

I planned to utilize 12 weeks of FMLA for the birth and care of my baby. However, the doctor will only allow me 6-8 weeks and then considers me "fit to return to work". The pediatrician cannot give me an addition an excuse for the care of my baby - unless the baby is sick. Legally, can my employer require me to return to work when my doctor says that I am able? How can I extend my leave to 12 weeks?
-
If I paid a medical office to process my FMLA paperwork with my employer (TWICE) and they missed the deadline by one day even though they were in communication with my HR department. What options do I have against either the medical office or my employer? I ultimately got denied and had to work with my doctor to get on light duty to keep an income.

I am a teacher who took FMLA leave for surgery. My principal said that I am not allowed on campus to attend a meeting concerning my schedule. Is this true? He also said that if I request a meeting, they cannot meet with me because of the FMLA guidelines. Is that true? It all sounds fishy. Why wouldn't my staff be allowed to answer my emails under FMLA?
