QUESTIONS

  • With our state on stay at home order due to the pandemic are we still having to provide our child for visitations even if it would mean the child would travel to another city and be more exposed as a result? And if so wouldn’t that be breaking the stay at home order? If we don’t do it would that be considered breaking the visitation order?

  • My father remarried two years ago. His health is taking a turn for the worse and he will need assisted living soon. They currently live in independent living with a meal plan. His own retirement is enough to cover the cost of assisted living, but his new wife is spending money on groceries that they don't need - about 900 dollars a month. The family is thinking of getting my dad out of this situation, but we don't know what the best thing to do is. What steps should we take?
  • i have a son and a daughter and i would like my fiance to be their permanent guardian, when we get married does he automatically become their guardian?
  • I'm pregnant and don't wish to keep the baby. I'm back in school trying to get my life on track for my son who I already am raising. Abortion is not an option. My question is 2 parts: 1). Is it possible to relinquish my parental rights to the father (who is older and stable) once the baby is born if all parties are in agreement? 2). If a close family friend and her husband want to adopt the baby, can I and the father relinquish rights to them if we all are in agreement? We all want the outcome to be the best for the baby and parent(s) to ensure healthy attachment at birth. Thank you
  • I just signed a one year lease For a small apartment, when I started to move things in and out of the apartment I noticed it smells like smoke so I tried to air it out but nothing is getting the smell of smoke out and it's really affecting my allergies, I cleaned the walls myself but it's still strong enough to affect me, I asked the landlord to have the apartment painted but he doesn't want to do that, is the landlord required to paint the apartment to get the smell of smoke off
  • Bounced a check to bank not knowing it would bounce at the time. When I did find out it bounced I did not pay right away. Amount $425. I cant pay now because it has gone to court system. At the time I wrote check I did not know it would bounce. Check was from good account. I just did poor bookkeeping. I read law and it says only a crime if I knew it would bounce. I have a plea on the table which will put a misdemeanor on my record. Do I have a defense since I did not know it would bounce?
  • The father of my 18 month old son decided to break up with me recently and am very upset because of the breakup. I asked him to give me time before i could be able to allow "visitations" (nothing has been done by court yet). he doesnt want to respect my decision and is threatening me with calling the police if i won't let him see my son. Can he do that? can i file a protection order to help me "buy time"? can i be the first to contact the court so that i am able to stipulate the custody and parenting time terms?
  • My son just turned 18. He should be entering his senior year in high school so the court papers say I pay child support until he is out of school or 19 years old. He quit school and was supposed to get his GED. He has not nor does it look like he ever will. “Until 19” clause was there to ensure support through high school. Since he is not enrolled, shouldn’t I be able to stop support since he is 18. I don’t support these choices made by him and his mother.
