Adoption
questions & answers
Question: I have a parental relationship with a 21 year old who's mother is deceased. We would like it if I could adopt him legally to solidify the family relationship, my children, this person and myself have discussed it in depth. Is this a possibility in Arizona?
Answer:
Arizona adult adoptions are governed by ARS § 14-8101. Read the statute carefully and consult with an attorney if you have specific questions pertaining to your situation. Also, note that the governor recently signed off on a bill amending this statute. The changes are subtle but important. A copy of the bill (SB1282) with the changes and amendments is linked below. (Note: language to be deleted has a line through it; language to be added to the statute is in capital letters).
