Expunging or sealing records

questions & answers

Question: I recently had my DUI conviction vacated. It it my understanding that I must contact all databases that contain my conviction and inform them of the fact that it has been vacated so that they may update their system. If this is so, how do I go about doing this? I need all potential employers, etc. to see that the conviction has been set aside. Thank you.

Answer: Unfortunately, there is no all-in-one database that a person can use to inform others of a vacated DUI. The most likely option would be to inform each database individually that is believed to contain the conviction. Also, the person who’s DUI was vacated should have a copy of the order showing it was vacated; this may be used when questioned as to whether it was vacated or not. The best option would be to contact an attorney specialized in the field for more options.
