Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: My rent is 650 a month now my landlord is trying to charg $810 when there is five weeks in a month is she allowed to do that
Answer: The amount of rent you are required to pay is governed by your lease. Generally, a lease will be for a period of a year or sometimes month-to-month. If you have a lease in place, the landlord may not change the rent at will. They must abide by the lease. Here is a link to the Arizona Residential Landlord Tenant Act containing the statutes I referenced and other helpful statutes. Please do be sure to comply with the specific notice requirements in each statute: https://housing.az.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/Landlord-Tenant-Act-ADOH-Publication-July-2018_0.pdf
