Question: I am renting a unit and am under section 8... I just found out that I had bed bugs... I called my management and told them about it. They said that I had to pay for the pest control people to come out and spray .. I also found out that one of the other units had bed bugs less then a year ago.. shouldn't they have to pay or have someone check all the other units???

Answer: There is a specific Arizona statute regarding bed bugs. It is A.R.S. 33-1319. It requires landlords to provide educational materials and not to lease any premises that have an infestation. It only applies to apartments and multi-family housing. It does not apply to single-family residences. It does not specifically require that a landlord have people come spray, but if there was a prior infestation that the landlord was aware of and did not fix, they could be in violation of the law.
