Question: I rented an apartment for 1 year, then bought a house. Three times scheduled a walk through & manger did not show. The apartment was clean and in great condition. They still kept my deposit & are charging me an additional $260 for a old broken closet wheel, Painting for next tenant & blinds. I have pictures the place was clean & in the same condition I got. The damaged blinds I replaced. I disputed the charges but it was sent to collections how do I fight this? Its now been 2 years am I reactivating a dormant debt?
Answer: You should discuss your situation in detail with an attorney. There are links to free and low-cost legal services on this website (at http://www.azlawhelp.org/accessToJustice). There are 3 programs in Arizona that you can use to get some inexpensive legal advice and guidance. One is the Modest Means Program. For a $75 fee, the Modes Means Program will arrange a one hour consult with an experienced attorney. The telephone number is (866)637-5341. Both the Maricopa and Pima County Bar Associations have lawyer referral programs that offer a 30 minute consult with an experienced attorney. Maricopa County's Lwyer Referral Service offers a 30 minute consult for a fee of $40. The telephone number is (602) 257-4434. Pima County's Lawyer Referral Service offers a 30 minute consultutation for a fee of $35. The telephone number is (520) 623-4625.
