Food Stamps, Cash Assistance

questions & answers

Question: We have money taken out each pay period for bankruptcy..does that count as a deduction if we apply for foodstamps?

Answer: The Arizona Department of Economic Security (AZDES) considers many factors, financial and non-financial, when determining the eligibility of applications for its Nutrition Assistance program. One of the factors considered is an applicant’s income. The Family Assistance Administration(FAA) Policy Manual is unclear as to how a bankruptcy payment would impact eligibility for assistance. Nevertheless, the AZDES encourages people who are not sure if they will qualify for assistance to apply because it permits an individualized analysis of the applicant’s situation and needs. For more information on the qualification requirements for Nutrition Assistance in Arizona, see the FAA Policy Manual which can be found here. https://www.azdes.gov/main.aspx?menu=162&id=5251 Additional information regarding the Nutrition Assistance program or to apply, visit the AZDES website. https://www.azdes.gov/nutrition_assistance/
