Question: If a single adult is injured and unable to make any decisions, will the court appoint a family member to become their guardian? If so, how is this done?

Answer: If the adult is not able to make decisions, a family member may petition the court to be appointed as guardian (to make health and housing decisions) and/or conservator (to make financial decisions). The necessary documents can be downloaded from the superior court's website (to the self service center tab). You can also purchase the necessary papers at the courthouse. The process and expenses are all set forth in the documents provided by the court. Of course, you can also hire an attorney to assist you in that process.
