Parental Rights & Obligations
questions & answers
Question: If my grandparents were awarded permanent guardianship would I still be charged for child support
Answer: Yes, you are still obligated to pay child support. If your grandparents have permanent guardianship of your kids, it is unlikely the court will relieve you of your child support obligations. The child support should be paid to your grandparents if they are the legal decision-makers and if the children now live with them. If the child support payments are still going to your ex, you may want to ask the court to modify the order so that the money is sent to your grandparents.
