Question: Are they any forms of assistance to help compensate a person while they are on unpaid FMLA status?
Answer: Unfortunately there are no special government or employer resources for people on FMLA. An employer is only required to hold your position or a position of similar stature for the length of time the employee is on FMLA, but does not have to pay that employee for the duration. To learn more about FMLA, you may want to review the U.S. Department of Labor site for information and Frequently Asked Questions about FMLA. Since you are considered still employed by the company, the government could not offer unemployment insurance either.
