Unemployment Compensation

questions & answers

Question: I was offered a part time job earning $160 a week, which is less than what I am claiming for unemployment. Can I still receive benefits and work that job?

Answer:

Answers to unemployment questions can be found in “Guide to Unemployment Insurance Arizona Benefits”. According to the Claimants Responsibilites section under Reporting Work and Wages, benefit recipients are given a $30/week allowance for part time work. Any amount made over that would reduce their benefits. Once a recipient starts work, they’ll have to report their earnings before deductions. The computer processing their claim will automatically give them the $30/week allowance. If the Department of Economic Security finds out that a benefit recipient was offered suitable work but then refused it, the recipient will be disqualified from receiving benefits until they find another job and earn eight times their weekly benefit amount, according to the Eligibility Issues section of the Guide.
