Question: As a full time student working full time, what would count as full time at work is it 40 hours per week or is it something less?

Answer:

On average a person who works 40 hours a week and is paid hourly is considered a full time employee.  However, it is the indvidual company who can determine the range of a full time worker as long as the hours do not exceed 40 hours in one week.

The Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) regulates minimum wage and overtime pay for the United States.  According to the FLSA a person must be paid one and one-half times the rate of their regular pay once they have worked more than 40 hours in one work week.

To determine if your hours count as work time you may want to consult this informational sheet created by the United States Department of Labor.
