Question: I am being evicted from my home and have court tomorrow, I wont be able to make it to court, and I understand that I will have a judgement placed against me. I have no reason to fight it because i am behind on rent. My question is, how soon after the judgement is made can money be taken from me. I am willing to pay the landlord and make payments but my husband is currently in the hospital recovering from a heart attack and the little bit of money i have in my account has to go towards medication.

Answer: There is no set time frame for the time it takes to go from a judgement to commencing garnishment proceedings. Generally it would be between 30-60 days. Your best option might be to contact the landlord and offer to enter into a reasonable payment plan.
