Question: I alerted maintenance a problem in my apartment which turned out to be a broken water heater under my floor. They are now forcing me to move to another apartment within 24 hours and will not pay for any moving costs. Is that legal?

Answer: If the broken water heater is part of the landlord's obligation to maintain and you are forced out of the premises as a result of the repairs, it is likely that you could recover reasonable moving expenses necessitated by the repairs and relocation. You should give written notice pursuant to A.R.S. 33-1361 of the issue. If payment is not made, you could make an argument to deduct it from your rent. You should always consult the Arizona Residential Landlord Tenant Act and a competent attorney.
