Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: I own a mobile home and rent the lot. Starting January the mobile home park owner wants to raise the rent by 70.00 dollars 9.69 % more than what we pay now. His reason is because he wants to install new fence around the whole mobile park and repair the roads because they are cracking and a pool. He saids we are in charge of paying for all repairs for everything that has to do with the property. Is this true? I know we do have to take care of the lawn maintenance and our homes but do we also have to take care of everything else? Please help thank you
Answer: Unfortunately, there are no general rules about how much rent may be increased when an existing rental agreement ends (this is important: rent may only be increased with the tenant’s consent, that is, when the rental agreement is up for renewal) or who should pay for what, because each park has different policies and every rental agreement is different. The rules which do exist mostly address proper notice and equal application.
