Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: I live in a apartment complex in Mesa n require renters insurance...I have done so the entire time thru ..now when my lease comes up they require me to get renters insurance thru them..
Answer: As a general rule, when a rental agreement comes up for renewal either party (the landlord or the tenant) may require that the terms and conditions of the previous agreement be altered, and if on that basis one of the parties chooses not to renew to the agreement, then that is their right. The idea is that if the tenant does not like the new terms and conditions (for example, a massive monthly rent increase), then the tenant has the choice to move out.
