Question: What is an Order of Protection?
Answer: An Order of Protection provides protection from a family member, spouse, roommate or romantic/sexual partner. If the order is granted by the court, the defendant will not be allowed to have any contact (physical or verbal) with you. There is no fee to file for an Order of Protection. If a person violates an Order of Protection, he or she will be in contempt of court and can be arrested.
