Parental Rights & Obligations
questions & answers
Question: My ex and I have a 12 year old son. He lives with him and sees me every other weekend. I want to give him full custody. do I have to pay child support if he gets full custody?
Answer: Child support is calculated based on the number of children you have, the amount of money you earn, and the amount of time spent with each parent. The more parenting time one parent has with the child/children, the more child support they are owed generally. A.R.S. 25-503 states “[i]n any proceeding in which there is at issue the support of a child, the court may order either or both parents to pay any amount necessary for the support of the child. If the court order does not specify the date when current support begins, the support obligation begins to accrue on the first day of the month following the entry of the order.”
