Question: My son is trying to get custody of the girl he thought was his daughter. During one her visits he had a dna test done and found out she was not his. He signed the birth certificate before he was 18. Can he get in trouble for not asking to test her. How does he get his name off her birth certificate.
Answer: If your son is seeking to amend a birth certificate he should contact the Arizona Department of Health Services ("ADHS"). ADHS can direct him. (He may need a court order to remove his name). Also, review ARS § 36-337 which covers amending birth certificates.
