Domestic Violence
questions & answers
Question: I have an issue where my wife’s step-dad grabs my daughter with more force then necessary to try to discipline her. I am going to confront him about this and want to know what options I have. If he does not want to comply
Answer: If you believe him grabbing your daughter rises to the level of domestic violence, you do have the option of calling the police. Is she afraid of him? Does his grabbing her leave bruises? Those are some of the things to consider. Do you and your wife live together? Your question is not simple. Does the step-father live with you and your wife? Can you and your wife agree not to take your daughter to his house? If you decide to make a domestic violence complaint, be prepared to answer detailed questions about your living situation, your daughter's relationship with this step-grandfather, and the physical and emotional results of his attempts at discipline. You may also consider filing for a restraining order to keep him away from her. Unfortunately, you did not tell us enough about your living situation for a more focused answer.
