Question: I live in kansas and my little sister is on phoenix. My mother and her father want to send her to live with me. I would like to know how to properly attain legal guardianship of her so that i can enroll her in school. I dont know what to do

Generally, under Arizona law, a court in Arizona has jurisdiction to make an initial child custody determination only if: (1) this state (Arizona) is the home state of the child on the date of the commencement of the proceeding, or (2) was the home state of the child, within six months before the commencement of the proceeding and the child is absent from this state but a parent or person acting as a parent continues to live in this state, see ARS 25-1031. Also, ARS 8-871 deals with establishing a permanent guardianship of a child and ARS 8-872 gives the procedure for permanent guardianship.
