questions & answers

Question: im 14 ive been living with my grandma for 6 months. My mom does drugs and my little sister and little brother live with her and her new husband(does and sells drugs). i moved out on my own. my sister doesnt want to. now my mom is saying that she has ALL athority over me. Does she? is she still my legal gardian?

Answer: If an individual is fourteen years of age, he or she is still under the supervision of whoever has legal custody. If the mother has legal custody, she has the authority to make decisions that reflect the best interest of the child according Arizona State statute 25-403. However, a minor can file for emancipation from his or her legal guardian by meeting the requirements outlined in Arizona statute 12-2451. If a guardian is partaking in drug use and distribution,at the same time, placing his or her children in harm, one can contact Child Protective Services. Call Toll-Free Child Abuse Hotline 1-888-SOS-CHILD (1-888-767-2445)
